An Idea....

I read the blogs of other people sometimes....it has been suggested that I start one of my own by my family, so here I am. :-)
Really it is just to sort of have a diary of sorts about our first attempt at Square Foot Gardening. To maybe share with family and friends what we are growing and to share pictures of what we are doing. I don't plan to share pictures that show too much....call it being overly cautious but I just can't believe how much people are willing to share about their families with strangers!
About the garden.....we have seedlings(or our babies as we call them) all over the place!
We started them in Jiffy 7 peat pellets and have had to transplant some already to peat pots.
We plan to grow (God willing it of course)
  1. Tomatoes- Cherokee Purple, Yellow Pear (a type of cherry tomato) Sweet 100 Cherry Tomatoes, Better Boy, Bush Early Girls, and Brandywine. We LOVE tomatoes.
  2. Peppers- Sweet Banana, California Bell Peppers, a hot red pepper that I got from my friend Elaine from her daddy's garden. I call it my Mr. Fike pepper!
  3. Eggplant- fairytale eggplant! they are so pretty and compact!
  4. Herbs- parsley, dill, chives, oreagano, thyme, sage, and some lavendar. OH! and basil! Lots and lots of basil!
  5. Green beans- the bush variety. You can plant 9 to a square foot!
  6. Our daughter Emma is going to be growing carrots, radishes, a yellow pear tomato plant, canteloupe and nasturtiums.
  7. Peas- Burpee has a variety called "Peas n a Pot" they can grow in as little as an 8 inch pot and are supposed to produce just as much as a regular pea plant! I sure hope so- we are going to grow those in a trough.

Lettuce- with all the nasties that have invaded our lettuces and spinach in this country we have not gotten to enjoy very much salad and this family LOVES salad too! So...we thought we would grow our own. The lettuce is doing pretty good- we are growing the loose leaf varieties and they are so pretty! This type is ready in 40- 45 days and we have planted successively so we will have some ready at different times. I pray it does well!

I will post pictures of the garden but as I said above I just don't feel comfortable showing our faces- legs, arms, backs of heads...no problem there ! LOL!

That about does it for this post. God Bless!
